Since its inception in 1983 as one of CATESOLs first chapters, the CATESOL Orange County Chapter has consistently offered two workshops per year.
Efforts are made to appeal to CATESOL’s different levels and areas of interest. Topics have averaged from "fun" activities such as games, songs, communicative interactive classroom techniques to heavy during academic writing, grammar, culture, reading strategies, pronunciation, cooperative learning and technology workshops. Invited speakers have included Dana Ferris, Neal Anderson, Marianne Ceice-Murcia, Susan Gaer, John Liang, Linda Grant, Spenser Kagan, Marsha Chan, Jamie Adelson-Goldtein, Janet Lane, Ellen Lang, and Rob Jenkins, just to name a few. Poster sessions are also included in the program, which feature experienced teachers as well as graduate students showcasing their ideas.
Aside from academics, what makes our workshops so inviting are a complimentary breakfast, delicious catered lunch, coffee breaks, opportunity drawings, and time to visit the many publishers’ exhibits and "schmooze" with old and new friends in a most welcoming atmosphere.
The chapter officers are always looking for new members to help organize these events. Any CATESOL member in our geographical area can join the chapter officers and contribute in a limited or more involved way. Whether learning new classroom strategies or enhancing your resume with professional development activities, getting involved with the chapter is most beneficial.
